Abstract

The ongoing S-PLUS project is surveying the sky in five-broad and seven-narrow photometric bands spanning from ~3,200 Angs to ~10,000 Angs. We profit from its capability in a pilot project to search for accreting white dwarfs. Focusing on purity instead of completeness, we paid attention to systems like Cataclysmic Variables (CVs) marked by an excess in blue which is consistent with the presence of strong emission lines, with signs of Halpha in emission, and that become brighter to redder emission. While recovering known systems and thus validating the method, we reveal tens of CV candidates. We request GMOS spectroscopy as definitive proof to confirm the nature of 16 selected systems.
