Abstract

We ask for 3.7 hours of Gemini+GMOS time to obtain follow-up spectra of two candidate tidal disruption event (TDE) light echoes identified in the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) Bright Galaxy Survey. The candidates have been selected based on the presence of Fe coronal emission lines in their DESI spectra. We aim to investigate if either candidate has varied on a timescale of ~ 6 months (a timescale that has yet to be explored for such objects) whilst obtaining high-resolution, high signal-to-noise spectra of the coronal-line regions to enable a detailed analysis of the targets. This program will also serve as a test for a larger-scale proposal to obtain similar spectra of new candidates with Gemini as they are identified in the main DESI survey.
