Abstract
The primary objective of this observing proposal is to follow-up a black hole X-ray binary recently in outburst. Our target, 4U 1755-338, is a Galactic black hole X-ray binary with a 4.4-hr orbital period in both X-ray and optical bands. The source has been in the failed outburst state for more than 450 days. This is very unusual and we therefore propose to obtain a medium-quality optical spectrum with Gemini-S/GMOS under the FT program to investigate the accretion process of this rare failed outburst.
