Abstract

We ask for 3.85 (including night calibrations and overheads) hours with GMOS-South in order to confirm the redshift of two new z>6 radio-loud quasar (RL QSO) candidates. The targets belong to a larger sample of candidates selected based on their optical/IR colours and the radio detection in the very recently released all-sky Rapid ASKAP Continuum Survey, at 888MHz. These objects are the most promising candidates in the sample, having the highest photometric redshift and dropout (>3) as well as a firm radio association (<0.5''). If their high-z nature was confirmed, they would be among the most radio powerful QSOs at z>6 and would increase the total amount RL QSOs currently known at these redshifts by 40%. By having a spectroscopic confirmation of their redshift we will be able to gather multiwavelength information and therefore to fully characterise the properties of the SMBHs and jets hosted by systems at the highest redshifts currently explored.
