Abstract

We propose to obtain an optical spectrum of the recent Supernova (SN) 2016gkg during the nebular phase in order to determine the mass of the progenitor star. This SN, discovered in Argentina, has become one of the most relevant events in the recent years and it has been extensively studied. We have studied its progenitor star/system by modeling the early light curves and the available pre-explosion images. The nebular spectrum we plan to obtain will serve as an independent approach at determining the nature of the exploding star and its possible binary companion.
