Title:Carbon Star Signatures in Integrated Light

Abstract

This is a proposal to complete a program that received time in 2016A, but was only partially executed. Flamingos 2 and GMOS-S would be used to obtain near-infrared and visible spectra of 5 dwarf galaxies that have colors indicative of large intermediate age populations. The F-2 data will be used to characterize the C star content using the Ballick-Ramsey C2 band. The GMOS spectra will be used to investigate the age and metallicity of the intermediate age component using well understood absorption features. These data will be used to determine if there are published models that can reproduce spectra of intermediate age systems at both the visible and NIR wavelengths.
