Abstract

By utilizing GMOS-South g, i imaging for a selected sample of catalogued star clusters located in the outskirts of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) we aim at probing whether tidal-dynamical effects due to the Magellanic system interaction have reached that region of the galaxy. We expect to estimate core, half-light, 90$\%$ enclosed luminosity and tidal radii and central surface brightness from the cluster radial profiles, as well as mass functions, to explote tidal effects and compare them to those from the Magellanic Cloud Photometry Survey for the central parts of the galaxy. We also expect to estimate age, reddening, distance, metallicity, binary frequency, etc from the cluster colour magnitude diagrams on an homogeneous basis. These fundamental parameters will allow us to build the star cluster frequency for this region of the LMC and compare it to those of other regions with known star cluster formation activity due to the interaction between both Magellanic Clouds. The derived cluster properties will be useeful for a variety of additional investigations, namely: searching for old clusters with masses smaller than 10$^4$M$\odot$, looking for multiple stellar populations, chemical inhomogeneities, binary sequences, among others.
