Abstract

We propose high resolution and high dynamic range H band observations of HD 142527 (a mass of 1.9 solar mass, a distance of 140 pc, an age of 2 Myr) using GPI in differential-polarimetry mode. When combined with the angular-differential-imaging technique, we will be able to simultaneously probe both the disk and any exoplanets in the system at planet forming radii (r <50 AU). As HD 142527 has a large gap accessible to GPI imaging (r ~100 AU: 0.''7), it is an ideal test-bed for diagnosing the disk+exoplanet content inside the gap. Our two main purposes are: to resolve and investigate the inner disk at a few tens of AU, and to discover the planets likely opening the large gap around HD 142527. If the planets in the gap regulate asymmetric mass accretion flows as suggested by recent ALMA observations, we may also find the fine structures in the inner disk such as spirals. As a by-product of our study, we will verify the readiness the GPI differential-polarimetry mode by comparing GPI results with those of our SEEDS project and VLT/NACO.
