Abstract
We propose to use band 4 time on Gemini South to observe relatively bright supernovae in poor conditions. This time will allow us to spectroscopically confirm many SNe Ia, to be used for cosmological distance indicators. Furthermore, the spectra obtained will allow classification of all types of SNe which will in turn contribute to our understanding of the diverse mechanisms driving stellar explosions.
