Title:Chemical Abundances in Giant Stars of Newly Discovered Infrared Globular Clusters.
PI:Peter Pessev
Co-I(s): German Gimeno, Claudia Winge, Ruben Diaz

Abstract

This project will derive accurate chemical abundances and [Alpha/Fe] ratios in order to trace chemical enrichment of two newly discovered and poorly studied globular clusters. Both objects suffer from significant optical reddening and Phoenix on Gemini South offers an unique opportunity for high-resolution abundance studies of individual red giant stars. These will allow extension of the position-abundance plane towards the inner Galaxy, constrain the properties of their stellar populations and provide new insight on the bulge formation process.
