Abstract
An image of Jupiter taken on 19 July 2009 at 15 UT showed an anomalous feature in southern hemisphere. The world-wide community responded with observations, and the subsequent data strongly suggest that an impact occurred during the 8 hours preceding that discovery image. We request time to image the impact site in the mid-infrared with TReCS on Gemini. The data on Thursday will complement planned observations with Hubble in the UV and visible, as well as Keck LGS AO images in the near infrared.
