Title:V1647~Ori: the peculiar re-appearence
PI:Colin Aspin
Co-I(s): Bo Reipurth

Abstract

The young, eruptive, low-mass, variable star V1647~Orionis has recently been seen to brighten significant from r~23 to r~17. This is an unexpected and important event since the last two outbursts were spaced by 40 years! It is important to obtain new optical and mid-IR observations on Gemini (together with near-IR observations being proposed for SpeX/IRTF) to allow us to further investigate this unusual behaviour and study the changes that have occurred in relation to those from the 2003-2006 outburst. Results Gemini observations from Feb 2007 have been published in Aspin, Beck & Reipurth (2008) and have proved to be extremely important in constraining stellar mass, age, accretion rate, and circumstellar properties of this quite unique star. We request 2hrs of Gemini DD time for these observations.
