Title:Mid-Infrared Imaging of Disks of Transitional Herbig Ae/Be Stars
PI:Naibi Marinas
Co-I(s): Charles M. Telesco, R. Scott Fisher

Abstract

We propose to use guaranteed time (payback to T-ReCs PI - Telesco) to complete our imaging survey at 10 and 20 microns of the circumstellar environments of nearby (< 250 pc) Herbig Ae/Be stars. T-ReCS will be used for all the sources but two, which are northern objects and Michelle will be preferred. All the targets of this survey are in an evolutionary stage between the very young embedded Herbig stars and their main sequence progeny, the Vega-type stars. Because they have evolved beyond the heavily embedded phase, most of the excess IR emission should be associated with circumstellar disks rather than placental envelopes. Preliminary results are showing a variety of scenarios from very extended mid-infrared emission to compact and unresolved emission. Our high-angular-resolution images have also revealed infrared companions. The completion of this survey will shed light on the evolution of the circumstellar material and the role played by companions in shaping the systems.
