Abstract

We propose to observe a small sample of dubious cases of activity in nearby AGN. Ground based spectroscopic observations made so far on these objects sampling spatial resolutions of +/-2" in the optical domain have been unable to separate the several structures seen in HST images. This kind of observations decreases drastically the contrast necessary for the detection of weak broad components, especially when immersed in a strong stellar contribution. Our galaxies are members of the elusive-AGN group and have the advantage of having low column densities of gas along the line of sight. We aim to use the high spatial resolution capabilities of the GMOS IFU, observing from 440 to 700 nm, to disentagle, spatially and spectroscopically, both the starburst and AGN contributions in such objects. This will allow us to draw emission line diagnostic diagrams and also analyse the dynamics of the gas and stellar components in the nuclear region of these galaxies, down to scales of 50 pc.
