Abstract

We have very recently discovered a new ultra-faint dwarf galaxy in the constellation of Boötes (Boötes V) in the Ultraviolet Near-Infrared Optical Northen Survey (UNIONS). Here, we request Directors Discretionary Time to obtain a spectrum of the only bright star, a high confidence member RGB star, in this system using GMOS-N. Obtaining a radial velocity and metallicity provides essential characterization of the orbital and chemical properties of this new dwarf, necessary for any subsequent analysis of this system. However, this galaxy will have set by mid August and will not rise again until January. We aim to include results from these observations in our discovery publication which we will submit by the end of August.
