Abstract

We propose to perform the GNIRS spectroscopic observation for 41 AGNs through the Band 3 program. These 41 AGNs are observable in 2021B season, and selected from 123 nearby (z<0.36) and bright (K<13.5 mag) well-known type 1 AGNs. The NIR spectra have an advantage of alleviating the dust obscuration effects and can give us important information on the SMBH and innermost part of dust torus. Although X-ray, UV, optical, and radio have been used extensively for studying AGNs, the NIR spectra of AGNs have been relatively scarcely obtained. Through this observation, we will (i) assemble and make publicly available the NIR spectral template of 123 AGNs, (ii) update the almost dust-free Paschen-line-based BH mass estimators, and (iii) constrain the inner radii of dust torus. With the upcoming launch of JWST, the updated Paschen-line-based BH mass estimators could become a very useful tool for studying dust reddened high redshift AGNs.
