Abstract

We propose to use Gemini/GMOS-N to spectroscopically confirm the current state of 8 AGN ignition/shut-down events detected by the eROSITA. We have identified the targets based on changes in their X-ray fluxes of at least a factor of 10 over half a year time scale. Recent optical photometry showed changes of up to 1.5 magnitudes indicating significant response in the optical wavelength to the changes in the X-rays. Through GMOS spectroscopy, we will probe prominent broad optical emission lines as well as the AGN continuum to verify their changing look nature. The proposed observations will also be used as references for future observations to understand how long such a transition phase last and how the different structural AGN components respond to the dramatic flux changes.
