Abstract

We propose to continue our study on the evolution of nova shells, i.e. the ejected material from a nova eruption in a cataclysmic variable (CV). The presence of such material represents the only unambiguous evidence for a CV having experienced a nova event in its past. Such events are thought to play a significant role in CV evolution. We here propose to take long-slit spectroscopy of novae to extend and refine previous work on the luminosity evolution of their shells. Our final goal is to determine up to which age a shell can be reasonably detected.
