Abstract

Based on numerical simulations of embedded newborn multiple systems, we have discovered extended phases during which a protostar born in a small triple system is ejected into distant highly eccentric orbits in the outskirts or even outside of its nascent cloud core. Such objects are dubbed orphans. We have identified a number of orphan candidates closely associated with sources having jets or powerful mass loss. We here propose to study one of these orphans spectroscopically using NIFS at Gemini in order to confirm its substellar nature and determine its spectral type and activity level.
