Abstract
I request 0.9 hours with Gemini N + GNIRS to (1) obtain a high quality spectrum of an unidentified solid state absorption feature at 2.265-microns toward the Galactic center source 2MASS J17470898-2829561 (2M1747) and (2) test its identifcation as solid methanol by observing a known feature of that species at 3.53 microns. The 2.265-micron feature has only been detected toward one other Galactic source. 2M1747 is unique, it is the only IR source in a Galactic center giant molecular cloud that is bright enough to perform high resolution absorption spectroscopy. Thus provides the only opportunity to study interstellar solid state chemistry within the extreme environment of a Galactic center molecular cloud.
