Title:Pan-STARRS Survey for Counterparts to ALIGO GW events

Abstract

We propose to continue our program of TOO spectroscopy of Pan-STARRS transients associated with LIGO Gravitational Wave Events. Advanced LIGO is now operational and could detect a GW event at any time. Most likey event is a merger of binary neutron star, but black hole events are possible too. We have an agreemetn with LIGO to map the larger region of a given events error "box". This can be many hundreds of degrees, and there will be unrelated transients in the field. The intent of this program is be able to do spectroscopy in bright or dark time of good candidates found by Pan-STARRS photometry. The LIGO events are proprietary.
