Abstract
PS16cgx is a Pan-STARRS transient and apparent supernova found in a targeted search of the IceCube Neutrino event 160427A. The transient source PS16cgx has a rise time and position coincident with the neutrino error box of 30 arcmin. At a redshift of 0.29, or M_r of -19.4, it is plausible this is a SN-IIn for which there are theoretical models predicting asymmetic high energy neutrinos. The probability of a unrelated supernova occuring in this small an area with a coincident rise time is extremely low. This object is potentially the first astronmical detection of neutrinos from a supernova since 1987a in the Magellenic Clouds. We request one hour of GMOS time to classify and charaterize this important transient.
