Abstract

We are building a sample of 225 SNe Ia and 225 core-collapse supernovae over three years with lightcurves and spectra from the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network (LCOGT) Supernova Key Project. We aim to observe SNe within days of explosion, especially to use shock physics and the presence of circumstellar material to test progenitor models. We will gather the first significant samples of exotic supernovae, those that push our understanding of supernova physics. Finally, the sample as a whole will be used in cosmology and other comparative studies of SNe. Gemini is essential to obtain spectra within days of explosion to screen them, study them at early times, and to trigger other follow-up facilities.
