Abstract

With a previous NIRI imaging survey, we discovered two promising planetary-mass companion candidates to stars in the 2 Myr-old Taurus region. We propose to obtain follow-up observations which are required to confirm their nature. If confirmed as sub-stellar companions, the expected masses are 2 MJup and 7 MJup, respectively. This would place them among the lowest-mass companions ever imaged directly. The fact that interest in the targets may have been triggered with the publication of the survey data in January of this year and the potentially high reward (a possible discovery of one or two directly imaged planets) in our view justify submission for DDT.
