Abstract
Based on numerical simulations of embedded newborn multiple systems, we have discovered extended phases during which protostars born in small triple systems are ejected into distant highly eccentric orbits in the outskirts or even outside of their nascent cloud cores. Such objects are dubbed orphans. We have identified a number of orphan candidates closely associated with sources having jets or powerful mass loss. We propose to study these orphans spectroscopically using GNIRS in order to clarify their nature and determine to what extent their circumstellar disks have been affected by the ejection events.
