Title:Exploring the Origin of Double-Peaked Emission Lines in AGN

Abstract

We propose to use GMOS-N’s high spatial and spectral resolutions to study when double-peaked narrow [OIII] emission lines in galaxy mergers indicate the presence of dual AGNs, or the presence of outflows. In the case of the latter, we will determine how merger ratio and separation between the two galaxies affect the velocity, separation, and origin of these outflows. To accomplish these goals, we will observe six galaxies with double-[OIII] lines that have previously been determined to have close companion galaxies, and compare them with six mass- and redshift-matched galaxies with double-[OIII] lines but single spatial structure.
