Abstract
This aim of this proposal is to estimate the black hole masses for a sample of 6 quasars, selected in a redshift range such that the H-beta line falls in the J-band and H-alpha in H-band (and as a bonus the forbidden narrow [SIII] line is in the K-band). We will use of the profiles of the Balmer lines to estimate black hole masses, this is a tried and tested technique. These redshifts are ideal for SED studies, since the peak of the output energy emission appears in the observable region (unlike the situation for low-z AGN). Second, they all have X-ray fluxes sufficient for detailed modeling (unlike the situation for high-z AGN). We will combine the black hole mass estimates, with our state-of-the-art models, to directly measure the bolometric luminosity, and to strongly constrain the distinct components that make up the overall SED. This will represent a study that exploits the potential of both the best multi-frequency data, and the most recent energy conserving SED models.
