Abstract

This proposal aims at obtaining deep wide-field photometric (g',r',i') images of the bright elliptical galaxies NGC 3610 and NGC 3613, to study the properties of their globular cluster systems (GCSs). The inner part of NGC 3610 GCS has been studied with HST images, but no analysis of the entire system has been made up to date. We propose to reach as fas as 7 arcmin (~ 50 kpc) from the galaxy center, which will allow us to calculate the extension, the projected distribution, and the total population of the GCS. The NGC 3613 GCS is completely unstudied. Both analysis will be important to understand the past history of bright early-type galaxies in low density environments. The observations will also allow us to search for dwarf galaxies and ultra-compact dwarfs (UCDs) in such low density environment. The proposed investigation will be part of the Doctoral Thesis of J.P. Caso (P.I) and J.P. Calderon (if dwarf galaxies are found in the fields).
