Abstract

We discovered a sample of Seyfert-2 galaxies with extremely unusual narrow-line region (NLR). They are galaxy-wide and ultra-luminous. In particular, their [OIII] luminosity is 10-50 times higher than the maximum luminosity in other Seyfert-2 samples. Only about 30 such galaxies exist in the 14000 square degrees of SDSS-DR9. Follow-up spectroscopy with GMOS-South and ESO/XSHOOTER reveal that most likely we are observing a quasar light echo, i.e. the NLRs reflect a much more active state of the AGN which has now subsided. We need to determine spectroscopic redshifts for the remainder of the galaxies in our sample, and for a few of them we want to determine dynamic masses.
