Abstract

The recent finding that some core-collapse supernovae have luminous blue variable (LBV) progenitors indicates that important open issues still remain in massive star evolution. We propose to observe 5 confirmed extragalactic LBVs in M31 and M33 using GMOS. We will use the radiative transfer code CMFGEN to constrain the fundamental parameters of extragalactic LBVs, such as the radius, luminosity, temperature, and mass-loss rate, and compare the predictions of our models with the obtained for galactic LBVs. We will be able to answer fundamental questions about rotation, mass loss, and location in the HR diagram for LBVs located in different environments.
