Abstract
We wish to obtain optical and near-IR observations of two newly discovered FU Orionis (FUor) eruptive variable stars in the Cygnus star forming regions. Such discoveries are very rare and to find two new young stars withion a few weeks of each other that seem to show characteristics of FUors is remarkable. Studying the optical and near-IR properties of these objects soon after their discovery is fundamentally important to the ongoing investigation of what triggers such outbursts and why their decay timescale is so long i.e. decades to even a century!.
The result of the proposed observations would be an ApJ Letter (submitted before the end of 2010) detailing the characteristics of these two sources and how similar they are to classical FUors such as FU Ori, V1057 Cyg, V1515 Cyg, and V1735 Cyg. For a similar ApJ Letter (on EX Lup) see Aspin et al. (2010, ApJL 719, L50).
