Abstract

We have selected early-type galaxies with extremely high velocity dispersions ($\sigma\simeq 400$ km $\rm s^{-1}$) from the SDSS and studied their morphology with the HST-ACS. We now propose to use GMOS to study the kinematics of 8 of the highest-$\sigma$ galaxies, including 6 which are elongated and extremely compact and dense, and (we believe) may be rapidly rotating. Deep long-slit spectra will provide rotation curves.
