Title: | DEIMOS/GMOS followup of new Milky Way dwarf galaxy candidates |

Abstract
Recently collaborators in Cambridge
have discovered several additional dwarf galaxy candidates in the SDSS
survey, nearly doubling the known census of nine. These low-mass,
low-luminosity (> 2x10^4 L_sun) galaxies are important
in understanding galaxy formation, and are currently over-predicted by
the accepted Cold Dark Matter (CDM) paradigm. Only in our immediate
neighborhood is it possible to weigh such galaxies using the motions
of their individual stars. Accordingly, we propose GMOS and/or DEIMOS
followup spectroscopy to determine the velocity dispersions of these
galaxies.
