Abstract
We have detected the AU Mic debris disk at L-band with Keck adaptive optics. The unexpectedly bright emission is indicative of transiently heated small grains within 10 AU of the star. We propose to use Gemini/Michelle to obtain resolved low-resolution spectra in the 10 micron region in order to detect the small grain composition and probe its spatial dependence. We will also utilize direct imaging at 18 microns to resolve the dominant source of 24 micron emission recently reported for the nearby star Fomalhaut using Spitzer/MIPS.
